Fitting speakers behind the seats in an S2
Ok I have read the faq, followed the installation guides, bought some new panels, to fir the speakers behind the seats but there is one vital piece of information omitted from all the articles, is how deep a speaker can you fit in there, and whats the biggest diameter magnet?
Any suggestions for models of speaker, depth available etc
PS I'm looking to put a component in there so any suggestions?

Take a look at this then try to work out what the speakers are and look for their tech specs. Will give you an idea of the depth you are looking at. Tweeters not a prob, seen plenty of examples in the electrics forum.
Im going with quite small speakers in my panels when i get round to it. Infinity reference to match my door speakers. Small but decent output

I have been readiing lots of Speker tech sheets, and have loads of dimensions for them, but need to have a t least an idea of spekers that have been used to do this so I can work out from there tech specs how deep and how big the hole can be therefore make my own choice for the component speakers to be used
You mentioned Infiities which ones dod you use?

Have a look on the electronics FAQ I'm sure there is a link in there to a thread with ALL the details.
But IIRC the biggest is 5.25" the trick is getting the magnet into the cavity behind the panel but having enough panel left to hold the speaker.
Most fit coaxials as it is even harder to mount the cross over and tweeters.
IMHO it is a bad location for speakers, not enough air space for the sound to trvael correctly with out attenuation. I tried it on my first S with amplified 5.25" components and ended up relocating them to the roll hoops.

Went the S-pod route in the end, not cheap but very good piece of kit
Fitted some infinities components, and Alpine HU, boy does this make a difference, only problem is it now makes my standard front door speakers sound crap.
Well looks like there on the list next ... new front door jobbers
