Default Fitting JBL Door Speakers

Today I tried to fit the JBL speakers I purchased to replace the OEM door speakers.

I was expecting this to be a straight replacement, but the JBLs are too deep to fit into the OEM plastic speaker holders.

I know a few of you have these speakers fitted, so if any one can let me know what I should do next it would be a great help.

Do I need to buy a different speaker holder? If so, where from?

Or is it simply a case of cutting away the back of the OEM holder? If so, what's the best tool for doing this?

Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas.

Nick

Get yourself to Helfrauds and by a set of 10mm x 6.5" Autoleads adaptors!
That will put the front edge back where the OEM speaker front was. If this don't work you JBL's are too deep.

It is!

IIRC I used a jig saw. A Dremmel could also be used.

There should be some old photos somewhere that show you what needs to be cut.

Thanks Steven. I'll see if any of my mates has a jigsaw I can borrow.

Mikey, thanks for the help but I don't think that will help - the JBLs are too deep for the plastic bin.

You can cut the OEM basket, but it basically means turning it in to a ring like the adaptor I recomended. I cut the baskets in my first S but found the adapter was a lot easier and leaves the baskets intact for when you sell and put it back to stock. My 2p.

Sorry Mikey.

To be honest I was not completely sure what these adaptors are, so thanks for clarifying.

Sounds like I will try Halfords tomorrow then.

Follow Mikey's advice unless you like using powertools on MDF

They are P62s. I ot them second hand from the For Sale board a few months back.

I can let you know what they are like when I get the buggers fitted, but they are supposed to be a lot better than the Honda ones.

A few other people on here seem to have them, so perhaps they are better placed to comment. Anyone?

Thanks Craig!

Whilst I am at it.... When I get around to connecting them up, what's the best way?

The standard speakers have a nice little connector which the JBLs don't have.
