Default Fitted a DAB head unit

My CD changer finally packed in so I took the plunge for a new headset.

I went for a Pioneer XEH 8500 DAB or some such with a powered DAB aerial that sticks in the windscreen corner.

Sound quality is much improved.

DAB is great for R5

It takes my iPhone 5 via USB or Bluetooth and it even takes an SD card.

Also fit neatly behind the stock door on my 01 car as I used the DIN plates.

Very pleased with it. Plus there's a weight saving dropping the old changer ha ha

Got any pics of how the aerial mounts? I'd like a DAB radio for R6, but didn't want to mess around wiring a new aerial etc.

I JB-welded in a body washer to make the hole round did a direct swap for the OEM beesting twig. Power's there already.

Don't ever use an internal twig; they are utter w ank.

The laugh is, some OEMs are still installing AM/FM radios. The motor industry is so behind the times, it'd be laughable if it wasn't inexcusable.

When you say you swapped out the OEM aerial, what did you swap it for?
I can see lots of internal DAB aerials, but haven't seen many external ones....

Mine is a film one on inside of windscreen

This

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...5868&langId=-1

No issues with reception so far (20 mile commute listening to R5). Gets a signal in the garage...

I'll take a pic, it's not big and looks quite subtle in the top left of windscreen (above tax disc)

not mine but like this

Yup, agreed.

I have a Kenwood DAB unit in mine and someone recently asked me why BBC 1Xtra DAB was on the radio - when I told them I didn't even have FM stations tuned in anymore they were shocked.

Got to move with the times..

This one

There's plenty to choose from there.

Well, the FM choice is so sh it. Uless you're into sport radio.

Combine DAB & internet & it makes it look retarded.

It still irks me that HU manufacturers still don't offer much that's truly modern and integrated. I don't really want to stuff the car with plug-in boxes.

That's why you need a really good twig.

Hertford area is all undulations & trees & all sorts of radio signals fail.

Oddly enough, the best reception is usually with the OEM dodgem car pole & converter box on the NSX!
