First oil change - sub-6000 miles
Bear with me guys. I've read the Technical FAQ honest - see quote below and I've done a search but I'm confused. My S is due a 12-month service at the end of the month. I bought her 5 months ago with 40 miles on the clock, we'll have done around 3,500 by the end of the month. I've contacted two local Honda dealers who both insist that any oil change on my car should use fully synthetic 5W40.
But the combined S2KI wisdom (international and UK) suggests otherwise, eg:
"Oil
Stay mineral until 6k or first service, run in oil should be 10W30 (preferred) or 10W40 (more readily available and perfectly acceptable). Halfords do 10W40 in an orange bottle MAKE SURE YOU BUY MINERAL. Synth up (if you desire) after that. If any engine work (or early servicing) is done pre 6k, ensure additive molybednum is requested. This is a `run in` additive that assists lubrication."
Am I still right to insist on staying mineral? If so, what oil is the current recommendation - and what additive.

use the standard Honda recommended oil...they could be funny about warranties and non-honda approved oil?!!? Go to the dealer :

I always supply my own oil for servicing so just supply a can of the Halfords 10w-40 mineral. I was advised on my motorbikes not to synth up until 10K so I would play safe and stay mineral for a bit longer.

Any oil is fine after the first 1000miles in my opinion.
There is no reason to keep on mineral, the rings will have been bedded in etc.

Do take your own oil though, the current recommended ones are Castrol TD 5w-40 and Silkolene Pro S 5W 40 (amongst others). Buy the halfords stuff if you want but the afforementioned ones meet VERY high specs from manufacturers whereas the non branded stuff does not . Not that it's bad it's just not tested as much and so is less expensive .
Suggest you go for the VW spec ones (507 I think is the most recent)
