Default First drive in the snow!

I awoke this morning to find an inch or so of ice and snow on the roads. With all those horror stories of winter driving I've read on the forum, I was dreading the 40 mile drive from Newcastle to Darlo'.

After a few minor twitches sideways however, I got to thinking the S is no worse than any BMW I've driven in the snow/ice. In fact the 320i convertible I owned (when I was 27 and unaware of the BMW social-stigma...) was infinitely worse!

I don't think I'll be hitting the VTEC zone anytime soon, but so far, I'm beginning to feel a little more comfortable with winter driving in the S - so much so, I may forget about buying that PAnda 4 x4 I've been hankering after...

On recently snowed roads (not icy though, I accelerated upto about 70 with the back sliding left right (deliberately tho!) with careful application of the throttle.

Great fun!

just do what I did and make sure it was a clear wide empty road! worst that can then happen is you look like an arse but don't damage anything/anyone.

All part of learning the car I guess. love it after today's drive. cold roads no ice is a fun (but be careful) experience. gritters are out in force round these parts.

when I lived in Tennessee we got regular severe weather warnings - freezing rain is not nice nor are tornados - it always makes me laugh when we have a 'severe weather warning' over here - the US guys must think we are a right bunch of wooses

having said that mind you my S stayed in the garage again this morning

I don't want to alarm you but it would appear that the cold weather has made your bonnet (hood) grow breasts !

Do you feed your S steroids ?

Strangely, my street with a 1in20 incline maybe? Has about 40 ft of sheet ice between the two rows of the cul-de-sac that cars have driven on and flattened the snow, then it recently drizzled and now you cannot stand on it. 4 of the neighbours cars (2 306's, one golf cabriolet, one Xsara) have all needed assistance, including pushing one of the 306's by 4 people!!! I was therefore a little worried yesterday morning (and more so this morning) when the car came out of the garage where it has been since Friday.

But I was literally giggling when I reached the top, felt like I had a range rover, the 2000rpm tickover in first gear just pushed me straight up no problem!! Both mornings!Low torque at this rpm is fantastic HaHa

Last night however I came home to open my garage and parked on the downward drive to open the garage, looked round and saw the car sliding forward, house brick for the gate had to be utilised quickly!! on the front wheels.

Lots of snow down West Malling way for me to play with today - very scary !!!

Had to drive for 10 mins at 5 MPH to get out of my village (near West Malling) and even then the rear wheels where spinning at every opportunity.

If only my roads were wider I could of had some real sideways fun but a warning to everyone - be careful out there. The roads are so slippery and I got to feel what the s2000 was like in them conditions today
