Honest and professional opinion do not takle any fire. More often than not you won't be able to takle it.
I know people think ah it's my car and I want to save it etc etc but it's not worth it. It's a lump of metal. I go to many car fires all of different serverity, I wear all the right protection but I was unlucky one day when a tyre exploaded and had hot tyre rubber stuck to my face.
Also depending on the medium in the extinguisher, test/refil date it may not even be any good to use.
People will always have their own views and where to site these things. Most are totaly impractical anyway.
Hmm ur better off buying a garden spray bottle and filling it with hot air

besides the WORST thing you can do is open the bonnet with an engine fire. the men in red say to pull the bonnet release ready for when they come and get well clear of the car.
think about it - flames rise... where's your flamable clothes gonna be when you open the bonnet in a rush??
not worth it - let it burn. buy a bag of marshmellows and some long sticks and make the best of a bad scenario...

Mine's stuck there with super strong velcro and has seen Las Vegas and Utah summers in excess of 120F in the boot...No boom yet! =P
Do agree with others that I would not use it in an engine fire. Best for smaller ones but only if you get to it early enough. We were taught in SCCA to unlatch the bonnet and stick the nozzle in there to try and snuff it out, by killing off the oxygen vs. opening it up. As those in the know have said, worst thing is to open it. Thinking of keeping marshmallows in the boot instead after reading about this!

I probably wouldn't use it, but is a legal requirement for travelling through Europe!
Steve.

I think my instructor for my ARDS test put it quite well. If the car ignites pull up near the marshals and get the hell out. Do not rely on the fire extinguisher in the car, if you need to pull it then it's probably too late.
I had one in the passenger footwell in my S would only have considered using it in the passenger compartment and not to tackle engine fires.
Let it burn.
