Filling roof seals/rails with silicone

Filling roof seals/rails with silicone
Hi. After last nights deluge my roof seals on the passenger side seemed to almost fill with water then decide to dump it all over the passenger seat when I set off. Been intermittent for a while though this was more than I've ever seen before and I'm now sick of it. Not sure new seals will necessarily crack it as so many others seem to have the same problem, so thought I might try filling them and the rails with silicone before resorting to new seals. Has anyone tried the filling option? Not sure if it will allow enough 'give' to allow the door to close properly.

The idea behind using silicone grease to ensure that the rubber seals maintain their elasticity and remain plump thereby ensuring you get a good seal around the roof. I wouldnt fill them with grease.

I had the same problem recently.
I removed the seals and coated them in copious amounts of Shin-Etsu, making sure I rubbed it in well (other silicon greases may suffice). I then refitted them, ensuring a good fit was achieved.

But that is not filling them with grease, the thread starter is suggesting filling the void with silicone sealant, not the same as your undertakings which were obviously the correct way to progress.

IME/IMO you should cost the seals in shinetsu grease and also, coat the runners in grease too.
Worked for me, though i did cheat and added a small amount of silicone to press the 2 top peices together, the water either gets in near the A pillar or in this 'joining' section.

Do you get a lot of wind noise when at speed?
If so the striker plates could be worn allowing air/water into the channels.
Try my fix for making the latches adjustable, this pulls the roof down onto the seals - see link in my sig.
Have you adjusted the seals so they are all touching the windows ?
( The s/s seal holders are slotted for adjustment, pull out the rubbers to access and replace carefully so ends touch)

Thanks all. Interestingly - have you noticed how it is the passenger side much more often than driver (maybe just the threads I've found)? Perhaps opening the passenger door and closing after putting the window up affects the seal. Either way will re-grease with shinetsu and also do the rail/seal interface this time which is something I've never tried before - good idea. Will also look at the latches.
