Default Fibre glass materials on the way

So I decided that instead of getting the K&N kit I'm just going to buy the filter and my plan for this weekend if the weather is good is the following

1: Make a fibreglass copy of the standard intake box but have two large extensions to front of the bonnet to suck in that fresh air. I love how it sounds with the cover off so I think with the filter and 2 extensions I should get a nice sound and lots of cool air being sucked in. The seals will be air tight to get max suction.

2: Will be working on my Sub box. I wanted to get a 12" on the side but the hinges come down to far on the boot lid. So I have to put in the bootwell. This now means I have to create a fibreglass container that will attach to the bootlid and hold by both my amps.

Fun weekend ahead

Any other ideas on cool fibreglass projects for the S2000?

wlaurent does a sub enclosure (10") which fits in the side of the boot - perhaps you can get some inspiration from the V2 installation pics http://www.darksidesubs.com/

Mine should be here next week

I have 2 12" Helix subs. It's not worth me buying another 10" these subs are not cheap and are hard to sell. So I'd rather use them.

Is he did a 12" for the sides I would have bought 2.

Sounds like a ram air type effect (although you need over 100 mph for that)

Just playing devils advocate but what is the measure of success fo rhte mod?

After much thought on this lately, ive decided that once on the move there is prob no filter heatsoak with the lid off. It does feel slower from standing start though - which will be heat soak. Would be easy to measure with a thermocouple or something, stick by the filter with lid on / off.

Or just use the IAT which is already there.

If the case is air tight the only place it's going to suck air from is infront of the radiator.

But seeing as I'm using 2 intakes it will be like having the lid off but standing start will be quick because anyhting it sucks in will be cooler.

I will also insulate it to keep as much of the heat out.

The upside is at high speed though, air will be forced in quicker and it will be way cooler.

I've got thermo couples in my engine bay .. on the move there was no heatsoak .. only when under 20 mph did the temps rise.

If you are good with FG, how about a roof

hehe I wish. I'm ok with FG but I dont think I could build a roof

Moulding that would be a right bitch! Unless someone lends me their hard top so I could mould it

But then theres the issue of Glass screen etc. It would be a nightmare to do properly.

If you think about the heat soak issue, it's only really going to come into play when you are not moving. Once you start going the air flow is all front to back, so little chance of it coming back to the air intake. Also, as air is a really poor conductor of heat it'll take a bit of time for the heat off the engine to come into play.

yeah I dont notice it at anyhting over 30mph.

But hey it would be a fun project and it would sort out the slugish start and I get the sound, possibly few extra horses as it speeds up.

Yup ive said it a few times too Russ, air has no chance of being heated at any moving velocity - plus the filter has less of a torturous path with the lid off

Biker 1 has a similar setup on his Havas.
