Russell, so I would have thought, but he didn't mention any cooler on the turbo-SC air. He did say it's crowded and a cooler's gonna need to be a good few litres = space.

From waht I can ascertain, he 80s-blacked out the rear lights & stuck a 'supercharged' badge on it. No further evidence.
I've not driven a hypercharged Polo or Golf or FIAT or whatever, but I cannot imagine it's any good for throttle response. But like steering feel or pedal feel, it no longer matters.
I'm not entirely conviced there's a weight/compactness saving over a larger four, either. Not on a car substantially larger than a Smart Fourtwo.
Possibly there would be volumetric efficiency gains by doing it to a Wankel engine.
But a twin-turbo setup would probably be simplest and least troublesome in the long run.
