Default Few questions?

Hi guys

I have a couple of issues that i need some sound advice on.

I have a loud vibrating noise on the car when i let off the loud pedal in all gears at around 3000 revs. Its a metal on metal vibration noise that comes from under the headunit area where the gearbox is, any ideas? the garage said they couldnt find the cause of the vibration noise. any ideas??? The car drives perfectly apart from this and its just very annoying!

Also, im just about to top up the car with oil, the garage said i should top it up with fully synthetic oil but i cant see through the mist to which one is best.

Also, i got a great deal today on two rear tyers, i bought some bridgestones RE050s and paid £110 each including fitting at protyre.

My car is a 2001.

Many Thanks

Alex

I think some of the older models suffer from clutch buzz on deceleration. Might not be that but take a look at the FAQ it is in there somewhere.
On the oil front it would be best asking your dealer or where you had it last serviced what grade oil they use then go out and get some. Go for a good brand though worth the extra money IMO as it revs much higher than most engines.

The noise could be exhaust resonance. It's hard to tell. does it happen when the car is stationalry or only if you are moving? Could the garage replicate the problem when they test drove the car?

It's also worth looking at the eingine and gearbox mounts if you can feel rather than hear the vibration.

Any fully synthetic form a brand name will be fine 5W-40 Castrol Edge (or the 0W-30) as good as any from Halfords.

Whatever you do don't allow the oil level to drop below minimum and check it regularly. The engine has a habit of variable rates of oil consumption where it'll use next to nothing for a week or two and then suddenly apparently guzzle half a litre in a day or two.

the vibration is only on the move when im slowing down around the 3000rev range and goes if i have my foot rested on the clutch pedal so maybe thats it. the clutch is getting replaced in Feb so maybe this will solve the problem.

Well I have topped the car up today with 200m of castrol 10/40 part synthetic. I assume this is ok. Its the same i used in my ITR.

Sounds like the classic early S clutch buzz. Nothing to worry about, just annoying.

TSB 054 (Honda Technical Service Bulletin) was the original recall sheet. Mine was done early on.

The search engine can be erratic, most of the time.
