Default Ferodo DS2500s

I've been running these pads for many years now, and have never used the OEM pad backing plates (for the front or rear) mostly because they never seem to fit 'right' over the pads.

I'm due to fit new discs and pads all round tomorrow, including the aforementioned Ferodos and I was just wondering whether any of you chaps run without plates or if you made em fit?

I've never had any squealing problems, but I have noticed that once the rear pads get reasonably low you can get a little low speed 'knock' when changing direction in a car park for instance.

What do you reckon? Mostly road use with the occasional track use thrown in.

I'm not running the shims simply because there weren't any on the car when I came to change the brakes after buying it. No issues with squeal

Anti rattle spring shims - yes.

Padback shims - no.

No rattle and no squeal.

Same here. Did this for about 5 years before moving to aftermarket calipers

Well, all fitted over the bank holiday and I was able to use all the shims all round. I'm not quite sure how, since all the DS2500 pad sets I've had over the years have never been able to accommodate the shims, but they just snapped right on these ones! No filing or sanding needed.

Now the brakes feel wunderbar. I'm ready for the euro trip!

Thanks all

Scuse the threadjack, but has anyone ever had a DS2500 crumble on them? I've just serviced my S and found one pad (nearside rear outer) half missing from the backing plate. I had this happen on a set of OEM pads on a track day years ago, but never on the Redstuffs, and this is my first set of DS2500. They were bedded in before their first track day and I didn't ever feel any fade. Maybe just a bad pad?

Yes - the last set of rears had done this on mine. I suspect the caliper had been sticking and overheated them. Only one side, can't remember if it was inner or outer though.

Thanks, I'll double check the calipers. But I keep them pretty well lubed and I could turn the wheels by hand once off the floor, so it shouldn't be the case. Fingers crossed. New set ordered anyway...
