I've also made another little silencer which can be placed back into the b pipe if wanted, as i haven't welded the unsilenced piece in...

I chopped the standard silencer out and have simply cut some stainless tube to length, swaged either end I.D/O.D and slotted each end, simply clamping it into the rest of the system, the joint is a very snug fit so there is no blowing (it's only like a slip joint on any other exhaust system anyway) i'll probably weld it up eventually as i can't see myself wanting to put a silencer back in, but either way it sounds better.

How long does it take to remove an exhaust and fit a new one roughly? I've bought one from eBay and want to see what it's like fitted because if it drones then I'd replace my stock one and get this mod done if its still possible. My local garage is busy at the minute with MOT's and I'm mechanically challenged

It depends if you have a lift or not, and how rusty your bolts are. I changed my exhaust over (cat back) in about half hour.

To add contrast, a mobile mechanic came over, stuck the car on a jack each side, got underneath and had to cut the old bolts. The swap from start to finish took just under and hour and a half.

Had the bolts been free then you're looking at 45 mins to an hour without a ramp I guess.

We used stainless pipe but mig welded it in, which perfectly OK but tig would look neater.

I copper slip all my bolts before putting back on. I can get my exhaust on and off in less than 15 mins now on car ramps. The ones you drive up. The first time was a royal pita tho!

Soak the cat bolts in wd40 or duck oil over night if I were you and have a long breaker bar at the ready!

Evening all,

Two things, firstly what is the part highlighted and can it be cut off and welded shut? Is it needed for anything?

Secondly, I've found a garage in Southern-England happy to do it. They're called Wrex Racing, based south of Oxford not far from M4.

Website here for address/contact details etc
