I removed the cat from my standard exhaust and was pleased with the difference in sound it made. If the cat was removed aswell as this mod, I think the standard exhaust would sound nice

Now I wish i could hear your car, I've been tinkering eith the idea of a Decat pipe for a while, but was unsure it would really make a difference.
I would do it personnally. The exhaust sounds abit louder and more raspy.
I have now upgraded to a buddy club.

I liked the sound of the standard exhaust when de-cated. I good friend of mine does the mot though so emissions arn't an issue.

I have read somewhere on this site (probably in "under the hood") that if you also get rid of the "appendix" on the exhaust (the resonator tube that protudes at a right angle but is not connected to anything) this "improves" the sound still further.

Where abouts on the exhaust is this? I wouldnt mind taking a look as I'd like a slightly louder exhaust so I can put the airbox lid back on. I don't want something thats going to make my ears bleed tho so this sounds like it could be a good compromise

Possibly worth trying this before a de-cat (I think its a "high-flow cat" that's fitted as OEM anyway so removing it may not give you much of a difference in sound but possible hassle come MOT time).
