Guys I have to disagree. My S is my daily drive and I don't find any of the problems you suggest

Saying that, my commute is only about 50 miles/week. But have no probs with noise on motorway or urban driving.
Try 60 miles a day then and let me know how you get on

My S is an every day car...... I commute 20 miles every day but I'm seriously considering moving further away from work so that I get to spend more time driving!...... only trouble is finding somewhere to live that has a good drive to Sunbury!

Mad but true!!!!

Isn't that the best thing though? If we were all the same life would be boring.

Well, unless everyone was a clone of me and then we'd all be gorgeous!

I have covered 24000 miles in 15 months in the S and find it a fantastic car for everyday driving, I cover all types of roads and I have done 700 miles in the same day with no back pains, aches etc.

The 2nd Gear 40mph or 3rd gear 50mph really pisses me off at times, but even at 50 I choose to use 2nd gear briefly and then 3rd gear. Don't think it makes too much difference but it does bug me. The 1000-1500 revs in 3rd before VTEC kicks in really does seem like a long time when you need to overtake a long HGV on a NSL A/B road.

Its a tiny matter though, and as I love wringing the car it does not bother me too much, but I still hanker after the 2.2 engine and pray it comes to the UK... but not for the lower limiter, for the added power.

Back to the subject though, I think EVO will not get the S2000, I just hope on the track it comes good and shows a few of those muppets what it can do. I want to see a trackday special with:

SLK350 Vs Boxster Vs Z4 3.0 Vs S2000 Vs RX8 Vs 350Z

NICE

ps anyone got any new Best Motoring vids with either the SLK or Z4 in?

I used my S as my daily drive all the time when I had it, and it started to get jarring. Three times a week I did a 350 mile round trip to get to Manchester. I did about 38k miles in 9 months and the car lost all it's 'specialness' to me.

If I hadn't ised it so much it would have been replaced with another S, but when I had the opportunity to break the lease and change cars, I ultimately went for a change.

If I'd had a beater car, then I'd have kept it. Easy as that.

Car Magazine have never really been a fan of the s2K - their review of the 04 model was limited to a small piece in their 'newcomers' section by Angus Fitton (I think).
He pretty much damns it with faint praise and bangs on about it being better than it was but still tricky.
The mags summary of the car - as I'm sure many of you will know - in their summary section at the end is (IIRC)
- For: 'zingy engine' (wow what a compliment)
- Against :'snappy chassis, needs respect'

When they test a boxster rival the s2k is notable by its absence

They are one of a band of journos who just don't get the car...

All the excellent "Car" journalists have either retired or moved to Autocar, which has oddly not really improved that much.

The last time I read "Car" it seemed to be written by pudgy emasuclated types who banged on about fitting their sprogs into their MPVs.

I have many of their reviews of the S2000, inter alia. I find that once one gets beyond the messy, overstyled layout, the text actually tells one very little indeed about the cars.

The near automobile pornography of former authors cannot seemingly be matched by modern journalists.

Yes CAR used to be better (been reading the bloody thing since the 80's - god is it that long?)

They still have Gavin Green - ex editor (excellent mag then I thought)

LJK Setright long gone - you loved him or you hated him, but you had to admire him! (Opinionated wanker or deliciously sensitive intellectual...)

LJKS loved the prelude - wonder what he would have made/makes of the S2k?

Anyone know?

I use my S as a daily driver and don't have a problem with it. I am lucky in that my commute to work involves driving through the Wiltshire countryside though!
As for the overtaking thing, not sure what all the fuss is about, the car pulls pretty well from 4500 rpm i find, so you can accelerate up behind the car you're taking then kick into vtec just as you pull past. + I like the kick in the back you get as it switches.
The S is a different driving experience to just about anything else out there, and does take a bit of getting used to.

ps EVO only seem to like cars with a porsche badge on.
