Everyone is going for 6 cylinders, will the S2K be left behind??!!???

IIRC from Carney's book, Honda considered a V6 during initial development, but decided a 4 mounted well behind the front axle would give much better weight distribution.
Given the number of cars tuned with a lot more torque (forced induction - turbo/super charger), that need new diffs, driveshafts, clutches whatever, then Honda would probably need to change a lot of the car to maintain the reliability etc. It's a very well balanced car - only engineered to what it needs in most areas.
I admit, and S2000 with the NSX engine up front, the rear end beefed up (therefor heavier, keeping the 50:50 weight distribution), would be an interesting car - a real purpose to the dual exhaust outlets as well!
If you wanted to do this enough, you could probably do it.....

If your looking for trends out there then Honda would have to be considering a performance diesel - just image the sound of that with a HKS system - no better not.

No!
A four is compact and light. A six of the same displacement is heavier & bulkier. A bigger six is even more so. So you need a bigger, heavier car to put round it, which is always bad.
If you want a six, buy an NSX. Or a Legend.

My 2p....
The S2000 needs a diet and not a V6!
I'd give it an IVTEC version of the existing engine with an improved exhaust.
This would need to be coupled with some weight loss and an improvement in drivetrain efficiency to give more power at the rear wheels.

"They say?...what say they?... let them say!"
I forget who said that and to what it referred, but the principle applies equally to the S2000. Why keep up with the Jones's when we are the Jones's?.
As Nick Graves says, if you want a six-cylinder get an NSX or a Legend (or one of the pot-boilers). We have a machine which is a modern 'classic' (and you know by now my views on trying to gild the lily): an icon for the 2000s just as the Daimler Dart was for the 1950s and the MGC was for the 1960s.
Those cars were not Austin-Healey 3-litres and didn't try to be.
If it ain't broke........

Is there not, as a consequence, an all-new TT coming out in 2005?
