I can't believe ANY of us can tell the difference between 2 different 'high' RON petrols from just driving the car.

I though Esso SUL was only 97RON but Optimax is 98.6RON or am I completely wrong

BP has brought out a new fuel called Ultimate, but not sure what RON it is. Tried it in the S3 and it felt no different from Optimax, so its on my list of possible petrols to use

I have personally found that the best performance petrol is BP Ultimate for my S

The only problem is that the only BP station is in the middle of a really busy industrial estate and costs a wapping 6p more per litre then the Optimax at the Shell station down the road from where I work. Needless to say, I only use the Ultimate at the weekend if I need fue.l The performance in VTEC is a lot sweeter and it seems to return a better fuel economy then Optimax.

maybe I should try BP?........things is surely what you save in economy you pay for at the pump anyway by virtue of the fact it's more expensive per litre?

BP ultima is 97 ron and it replaced their old SUL. There is a thread about this somewhere from 2-4 months back. I spoke to BP and they confirmed they were increasing the dosage of the cleaning product within the fuel but the RON rating was going to remain constant. Someone else also posted the same info and they work for BP.

Personally I use whatever SUL I can get my hands on. I am not too concerned about the 1-2p difference a litre at different petrol companies and I can't say I have noticed much difference. Sometims however when I am driving my car feels very rough but at other times it runs velvety smooth and on the same brand of petrol. It has to be a mechanical thing.
