Yes Jamie, from memory the manual states 13lbft but this was later revised and a bulletin issued stating that they should be torqued to 18lbft. You can do the math to convert to NM.

I can probably fix this for you,
i have a special kit which rethreads the hole then a steel insert is fitted into which the plug fits,
it is better to get the head off to do,
I used to race an old jaguar engine with high comp on methanol i had a problem with the alloy of the head being too soft so got the insert kit.
i will check the sizes of the inserts i have, if correct and you can get the head to me it will take no longer than 10 mins i'll do it as a favour.
they are very similar to the post a couple up Timesert

Hunt about for a GOOD machine shop.
You can fill the head with something (like shaving gel) with the piston at BDC.
Make the insert (one piece sleeve like type best as no tang to snap off) and simply rotate the engine over TDC to expell the swarf. As mentioned, alloy is not too big a deal - recovering a tang end of a traditional helicoil is.
If done properly and bonded in you should get away with it for years and ought to cost less than

Sorry for some reason i thought the head was already off. It is perfectly fine to do in situe and always did it this way before . If you were prepared to spend 100 quid. I will come to milton k and do it at your house or wherever the car is. I would not use a helicoil because of the previovsly mentioned tang being difficult to remove afterwards. I have sleeve type inserts. We used to use some really expensive expanding foaw type stuff. Never thougt of using shaving foam . Good tip.
