Default Engine rough when cold

Haven't used the S2k for a week or so, but thought I'd make the most of a nice morning today

The engine sounded really rough when it was cold, almost like it was running without the air-box. A couple of miles and it's running as sweetly as ever. I've never noticed this before, has anyone else had it or should I consult my dealer?

mine always sounds a little rough for the first few minutes... fine when up to temperature though - i always assumed it was just the oil being cold...

Takes a short while for the oil (all of which will be at the bottom of the sump) to get around, esp if not driven for a while. Noise possibly the tappets given no oil will be, err, tapping When was the last oil change? Older oil tends to take longer to get round the engine slowly.

Oil change 1000 miles ago, still at the top of the dipstick - checked on Sunday, and this is the first drive since then.

Probably a combination of not driving the car for a while and engine paranoia after Simon's blow up

'engine paranoia' eh?

try adding lithium to each tankful.

Mine always sounds like that when cold, so I never rev above 4krpm for the first few miles. I like the sound of it though, sounds mean as fook.

Rough, or rattly? What's the mileage? Does it only do it on a cold start not a warm restart?

The best way to decribe it is like having the airbox off. It only did it as I drove up a steep hill to go to work for the first mile this morning. Then it was fine.

I've never noticed it before, but I don't normally go up that hill when the engine is cold and the roof is down. It was fine coming home from work.

72k miles, running on 10w30 Redline as of the last service. Shell Helix Ultra before that.

The up hill bit is interesting. I'd pull a spark plug and check the gap and condition of it. IIRC 72k is when the standard plugs are due for replacement, so you could be on the last of the old plugs, or if they've just been changed could be gapped wrongly.

It won't be the oil.

You could tell a lot more with a little datalogging run if you had the kit. But just pulling the plugs doesn't take long at all. They'd be my first point of call.
