Engine is racing
Hi guys,
Got a strange engine problem, which i think is nothing but just wanted to see if anyone else had experienced anything similar and may be able to advise what the cause may be.
When i start the engine from cold, the engine races to 2k, 2.5k revs at idle, only for 5 mins or so. When the engine warms up the idle revs drop back down to 1k or so which is the normal level. This doesn't hqappen everytime i start from cold.
The car was serviced 5k miles ago at Basingstoke Honda and they said she was running perfectly.
Any ideas? Thanks

Mine does this every cold start in the morning.
I always put it down to some kind of auto choke or to help it warm up a little faster.
Clarity would be welcomed!

No; the fast idle control should run it @ around 1,500rpm. 2,500 is too fast for no-oil conditions.
Try cleaning the gizzard and check the throttle cable spring is lubricated and all is adjusted.
Failing that, get the dealer to reset.

They all idle high, and rich to begin with (from cold) by design.
But 2,500 is far too high.

Mine sits at 2,000 RPM, but not for very long.
I have to reverse out of my drive in the morning and lets say with a 2,000 RPM idle I have to dip the clutch rather promptly

or reverse on to your drive at night, then you are facing forwards for the off in the morning ...... fftopic: sorry
2k rpm for a short while, then about 1.5k for a bit longer, if I haven't got around to moving by then!

Mine does it at around 2000rpm for a short period if cold (climatic) and settles down to around 750-900rpm when warm.. I thought a high idle on starting was completely normal (and indeed quite useful).
