engine problems need advice
Hey guys. I have a ap1 2001 JDM s2k.
Its developed some problems such as bottom end knocking then it died on me. My mechanic tells me that after inspection it practically needs a new engine. I think it's probably out of his depth.
He says that the can shaft is worn out. Bearing was replaced and it got damaged again quickly and something about pistons being bent out of shape.
I am no mechanic and my skills are limited to servicing so being technical will just confuse me. I guess what I am asking is if a partial rebuild is on the cards please let me know of any guys who can do it or if I really do need a new engine I seen ones on eBay but they are based in Australia?! Obviously I will opt for the cheaper option.
I am based in north west London. Thanks
Vince

To echo the sentiment of all the other "my cars just blown up" threads. Yes - you need a new engine. Check the for sale section here or take a punt on an ebay motor (Local ones should/will pop up).
The F20C is a hard engine to rebuild well, and if your bottom end is knocking and your cams are gone then there's not much left to rebuild anyway so you're better off with a fresh motor.
Good luck, these threads seem to be all to common at the moment!

I genuinely feel your pain as I'm going through a similar thing at the moment. You will notice a distinct lack of "I rebuilt my blown engine" threads on here, or the wider web. The general concencus is once the bottom end is shot, the engine is scrap.
There are a few engines on eBay currently, we are also approaching the time of year when 2nd hand S2000 parts become more abundant. My. Advice would be get the best low mileage MY04 + engine you can find and salvage what you can from the current one.

It depends on what damage you have done.
The bores are the key.
The H22A from the Lude/ATR uses FRM bores and lots of them have been rebuilt.
I know of several in escorts that have been rebuilt and then hammered waaaaaaaaaay harder than in the majority of S2000s.
The issue comes down to economics.
If you catch the knock in time, a new set of shells and a crank polish will sort you out. Replace the rings whilst you're at it and you'd be done for about £6-700.

Thanks guys. Will a ap2 engine fit? Looked at engine reconditioning companies but they seem to be all scammers
might end up putting the car up for sale. Shame I don't have room to break it.

There isn't an AP2 engine, they are all 2 litre AP1. The main difference is the DBW from 2006 onwards. You want to find a pre 2006 non DBW for yours.

I'm guessing in 3 more days, another "appearance" from a newbie with a lunched F20. Sorry to hear, such an alarming amount of non-serviced S's out there rearing their heads. Crazy!
