Engine oil
I might be being thick here but im unsure on enigne oil type. Ive read the 'tech faq' but im still not clear on the type of oil. I need to let our service manger know so he can order me some. I see a reference for running in but nothing more. I intend to use mobile 1 but need the viscosity or reference of some kind. Can anyone shed any light?

In my late-2002 S2000 manual it says 10W 30 synthetic and the use of the Honda branded oil (but they would say that!)
If you want to change to something else there is not a correct answer. Loads of people use 5W 40 fully synthetic (me too), but thats not to say its the best choice.
I'd say:
1) Decide if you want to be semi or fully synthetic
2) Chose what grade you want
3) Choose a quality brand

I'm booked in for a service at Drake and Fletcher in Maidstone and they apparently put in Mobil 1 0W 30 which, following a read of the Mobil site, must be Mobil 1 Fuel Economy 0W-30. Any experience of this?

Where's the grit teeth and count to 10 smiley.....?
Does NO-ONE ever use the search facility on this site? Granted, it's not as efficient as some, but god knows there are enough oil threads out there. SOME of them must surely show up....?
Concensus seems to be that any of 5W-30, 5W-40, 10W-30 or 10W-40 should be OK.

No. But i have now been topped up. Turn out the garage had the right type of oil in anyway. 5W40 Fully synthetic which was good.
But only small concern is that our garage services JCBs and lorries.
oh well im sure it will do the job!

To be fair, it wasn't really aimed at you, Survey. More just a general tirade.
I know it's contentious and there's no "right" answer, but I still think some form of Oil FAQ would be a good idea. It may not deal with all queries, but it might mean that only every 6th thread is asking "Which oil....?" rather than every 3rd thread, as at the moment
Maybe I'll dig out some of the old oil threads and do something about it.....
