Default Engine Making Bad Rattling Sound, Had To Stop..

OK, got to be quick as I'm out tonight. Please help if your out there guys!
Driving up motorway, rattling sound starts...Is it exhaust or engine? Pulled over, rev engine, bad rattling sound from engine!!! Decided not to carry on. Got flatbed to take me to nearest honda garage. Just made it there before closing. Had to leave it not knowing whether it's dead! Will call me Monday. Flatbed driver reckons by the sound of it, it might be bottom end?!

Gotta go now, any ideas anyone?

Thanks,

Blitzspear.

Misplaced gearchange? Oil upto level? Revved hard? Recalls done? Theres just too much we need to know in order to provide the simplest of diagnoses.

Give us more info and we`ll help.

Was it a sound like a "hammer would make thumping on something solid repeatedly"? Was the oil level low?

Checked oil before journey, was one notch from the top so I put a 100mls in. Engine oil bolt recall done about 9 months ago. Car was fine for about 160 miles on M1 then joined A50. Had a little rev to the redline in 4th. Noticed that when I had another little rev about 5 minutes later that Vtec paused at about 7000rpm, bit like it does when the map sensor gets stuck....
Got to next roundabout just outside of Stoke and heard bad noises. Pulled over and thought it might be catalytic converter, reved engine and sounded like a spark plug rattling around inside engine!

I've more spirited runs than I had yesterday that's for sure.....

Only problem is my car is now in Honda waiting for Monday. I have to get back to London today!

I do hope you get it sorted relatively painlessly - from what you say it doesn't sound like a "bottom end" or crankshaft problem to me. Best not to speculate but wait for Honda to have a look at it.

Do you have an extended warranty? (If so, would this allow you a hire car to get you to London?)

Breath switched to 'hold' mode. Hope this proves to be a simple problem.

So....

What are the consequences of putting too much oil in?
