Cheers Rich.

My 54k service is early next year, so I might get that checked a bit sooner. Have you noticed any drop in oil consumption as well since the valve clearances were done?
To be honest there must be something wrong with my s as it has never used any oil, in 2k miles since the 51k service i have not put a drop in it.

And i do check it alot.

I think a few have done there own valve clearance and i don't think it to difficult ,not sure if they have to be done in a particular sequence though, but for what it cost at dealers (can't be any more that an hours labour

No mate. I think the problem with you. If your not using oil, then your not driving fast enough

Try harder

yes its a rattly noise, will have honda do valves or is it fairly easy to do ones self, nothing special in there is there? should they be done hot or cold?
Feeler gauges and a breaker bar/socket to fit the crank bolt.

Clearences are always done cold.

According to a few on here, they reccommend going a thou under minimum clearence.

Do I remember what they are? No, something like 9 thou and 11 thou, but best check

Also, a lot of people replace the TCT in the forlorn hope that a knackered timing chaing & sprockets will get better, which they won't.

They are a bit of a weakness on S200s. But less of a nightmare than on Citroen SMs.

Rich, how much did Honda charge for checking and changing your valve clearances?
Make sure you get a tech who KNOWS WTF he is doing and does it with precision.

Like Jorge from Bushey

Adjusting valve clearances should have no impact on oil consumption. The two are totally unrelated.
