ENGINE FAILURES
I'm getting worried. about 29k on the clock so it's squeaky bum time.. 35k seems to be a common fail point. So time to name and shame your rod throwing, valve chomping Honda reliability issues
Nottm_S2 MY01,29k,FHSH,No problems so far
Havas MY01,42k,FHSH,No problems so far
Lower MY00,30k,FHSH,head fell off no.4 inlet valve. Valve head shattered was pushed out into the inlet manifold where bits of it got sucked into the other cylinders.
Si2K MY00,102k,FHSH,No problems so far
so we want MY, mileage,service history,status
how's that for a start?

Check the oil and coolant regularly, get it serviced in accordance with the schedule, and don't rag it from cold. also avoid 5th to 2nd gear changes at high speeds...

Oil and that is fine I check it every week. It's other stuff that scares me, like valves breaking off hehe, would rather replace something if it's getting weak instead of ending up needing a new engine.

30k and head fell off no.4 inlet valve. Valve head shattered and was pushed out into the inlet manifold where bits of it got sucked into the other cylinders. Engine had not neen over revved according to the ecu and had a full honda service history. Car was an MY00.
Result was one totally lunched engine luckily replaced under extended warranty.
Engine 2 went after 0.5 miles after honda dealer reused inlet manifold and failed to clean it properly resulting in same failure.
Engine 3 was fine for another 25k and then i sold the car.
Result was one totally lunched engine luckily replaced under extended warranty.

On the contrary, i think i'm very lucky. The whole lot was covered by the extended warranty during the period that Warranty Holdings (the company that underwrote the honda extended warranty) had gone bust. Saved me

Good thread idea. Might be worth creating a list on the first post as this will no doubt cause some discussion. Username - mileage - nature of failure and mods would be useful.
I think the failures at 30k are rare personally.
Its also diffucult to say whether a failure is "user error" (poor maintenance, stupid mods) or "design fault" unless people have had a proper RCFA type analysis completed. Your car also may have been overreved by a previous owner and this type of abuse tends to manifest a failure much later than the event.
My view is that any peice of machinery which has been correctly run and maintained, should only fail at a very high age due to fatigue or wear. Things dont tend to fail without external influence...

a) 40K and going strong
b) 40K and lost engine - aftermarket ECU or otherwise heavily modded
c) 40K and lost engine - drive very hard and/or lots of track work
d) 70K and going strong
