Default Electric water pumps

anybody using one? a freind of mine has one fitted to his GT40 kit car (i have to call it a replica when he can hear me) I think this could be good on the S as you dont need to rev the nuts of the pump to get flow so not much point on driving it past 6K, there is around 4 BHP being used up just driving the pump of the crank and the plastic pump weighs less, the realy neat thing is the control box slows down and speeds up the pump depending on engine temp so you can have the pump running fast in slow moving trafic and slow on the motorway
any thoughts?

I think PJLs car had one... can't remember the current owner though.

A client has one on his Rover V8-engined Westfield.

No room for anything else!

PJL's car did have one but it shorted out on the test drive when I was buying it. I had the mechanical water pump put back on for reliability. I do like the concept of the electric waterpump for controlling water temp and using less power at high RPM. The benefit isn't worth the hassle for me at this stage. Electrical will be less reliable than pulley powered pump and thermostat.

He had two, if that gives you any indication of reliability....Sitting with Matt stuck a mile down the road from Avonvale didn't really convince me of the merits of an elctric pump

A case of good concept poor realisation, you don't hear of electric fuel pumps being unreliable so I cannot see why a water pump should be any different. its a shame because this is one mod that has almost no downside it makes the cooling more efficient gives a slight increase in power and saves weight

Bit extreme on a road car, and not sure 4 bhp is worht the hassle but in theory it could work.

You are introducing more risk potentially, so I'd also flag up that as a concern. I'd want some good evidence that it would run reliably. Fitting 2 would be a good option versus a nackered engine.
