ECU Questions
Hi Guys,
I just had a look at this thread. Either I am tired, depressed beyond belief or just plain stupid.
I am facing an ECU replacement from the flood. I want to try one from another car first to see what else electronically may be wrong, like the RL TC ECU and SRS ECU etc.
Can this be done or would the ECU / Immobiliser / key programing crap kick in here? I may have access to a JDM 99 import ECU to try this and I get the impression it has no built in immobiliser?
I think I have the POS UK installed alarm. Is there anyway to just bypass that thing, like, for ever?
Anyone has a UK ECU sitting on a shelf waiting to be sold?

Yup.
And what really pissed me off is when I went yesterday to check it myself, they had the car, still with water in the foot wells with the TC computer exposed and all the connectors exposed. The windows were closed and soft top closed too. So whatever didn't get damaged directly by the flood water is probably damaged now by the high level of moisture.
Owning a car like this in this country is a lost cause.

mate i'd seriously consider taking onboard what i said about insurance companies in the uk NOT repairing water-damaged cars.
Nothing worse than some idiot hitting the side of your s in a crash (completely not you at fault) and airbags not going off, nor pre-tensioners for example.

I hear you. What I am doing is quoting the insurance to get the entire SRS system - belts, bags, everything to be replaced - again. There is always the possibility the car will be written off anyways if the estimate is high enough. That may end my S career in this country unless I buy back the "wreck" and turn it into a track car (never mind we have no race track at the moment).
The move to Canada cant come fast enough - cold be dammed.
