Travelled down the M6 this morning in the worst wet weather I've ever experienced - the outside lane was down to 50mph due to the sheets of raining which reduced visibility at times to 25 metres. This was the first time I'd driven the S with my new Eagle F1s and the car was appreciably more sure footed in the wet than my S02s have ever been. Standing water which would usually give me an anxious moment as the tyres lost their grip for a split second did not seem to affect traction. F1s get my (whereas the idiots who were tailgating along the M6 get a big )

it's raining heavily here in Surrey.........justy as well the S is safely tucked away and I am in the Corrolla

Are the F1's really that much better over the S02's?

In the wet, yes. Those of us who use them have been saying so for as long as I've been on the board......

Of course, there's a trade off in the dry - you don't get the same outright grip you with the S02s in good weather.

Sounds like you faired better than the guy infront of me on the M25 today. He was in the inside lane in his Volvo about 15 metres infront on me, next thing I saw the traffic came to a complete hault and seemed to have nowhere to go and ended up spinning a couple of times and went up the embankment and had a little meeting with a rather large tree.

On the basis that most of the wet weather handling issues are related to the back end, can you just replace the rears with F1's?

Iain, no!

You need to be running the same tyres on front as on back. If you don't, you're going to get handling which is even less predictable than S02s on sheet ice!

(Well, a slight exaggeration, perhaps, but I had it drummed into me right from the outset that you needed to run the same type of tyre all the way round the car)
