Default E46 M3 conv vs S2k

Friday morning on way to Goodwood [ta Beno] my son & myself engaged a new silver M3 convertible. We were around Petersfield to Chichester I think, not paying attention to signs but following sat nav. We turned off as instructed and blow me 2 miles later we come out in front of said M3.
It didn't take long for "game on".

I do actually believe he was surprised that Honda's version of an MX5 had the audacity to take on his Wunder Wagen but into first long right hand sweeper opening out to exit and we took 8 car lengths out of him. Then onto fast straight and the gap does not close. This goes on for about 3 miles with velocity exceeding 125kmh my passenger said afterwards. I then decided that it was enough and pulled over to let him pass us in a small village. He grins, we grin...Fun over.

Even I was surprised at how well my S2 had accounted for itself.

Almost as fast and

Your passenger should be congratulated on his mathematical prowess in converting the dash read-out to kph!

That's it exactly Zero. 100BHP more than our little car but prolly 400kg more = Similar power to weight ratio. Excluding me being a bit lardy of course.

I had an E36M3 and to be honest felt no quicker and I mean that had on heart

yes it had 321Bhp but weighed in at 1560kgs..... a muppet on Scoobynet can't understand why an E36M3 Convertible with potentially an additional 150kgs of body stiffening and SMG bits and pieces could not see off an S2000

The S2000 is a lot more agile and with quicker steering inspires more confidence

Still rather have the M3 convertible though :-)

Love my S2000 but I know what the better car is (but then I suppose it depends what you want)

Blasphemy! Even if I could afford the M3 I wouldn't opt for it. I'd take the S any time of the day. The S is much much MUCH better looking!

the only regret I have with the S2000 is that it's a strict 2 seater...I would like to take the wife and kids out with me top down sometimes

Still you can't have everything

The M3 Convertible is a fine motor indeed but they are like chalk and cheese of course
