My car is a year 2000 jap import accordind to the garage the dyno results are:

179.9 bhp @ the wheels = 238 bhp @ flywheel
123.4 ftlbs torque @ the wheels

is this about normal for that year ? the torque seems a bit low

Seems fine to me - its at the wheels remember. 153 lbs ft is the flywheel figure IIRC.

Not that dyno's should really be trusted

What make was it?

Edit - your whp calculation is miles off though? You are looking at 60 bhploss through the drivetrain by your estimate! The whp figures look about 10 - 15 bhp low.

Mine dyno'd at 190 with some mods, then 208 with the Unichip added.
