Driving Holiday
Wahoo! Me and the missus have decided that this years summer holiday will be in the S2000. Initial thoughts are to journey down to the south of France over a few days, possibly camping (oooh yesh sweeetie). Spend a week in an Hotel in the south and then allow a few days for the journy back.
If any one had previously done this I'd be grateful for any advice on places to go, routes, locations of Shell garages in France, useful websites etc etc.
Thanks
Nick

Come along to the as-yet unplanned August Bank holiday Ring trip on your way back!
Seriously, i did a jaunt to the south of France last summer (unfortunately not in my S - boohoo) and it was great fun. We drove down to Toulouse then along the whole coast to Nice, stayed over just above Monte Carlo next to the best rally stages, then along the coast into Italy to Genoa and across to Modena and Maranello - Ferrari land!
Then back up to the Swiss/Italian border, staying in very pretty Aosta, over the Grand St Bernard pass (awesome scenery) then a half circuit of Lake Geneva, over into France, by-past Paris and quickly did the NOrmandy landing beaches before home to Jersey.
We did 2,300 miles in 6 days but great fun and worth a go!

Nick,
a bunch of mates and i do this every year. we typically just get accomdation on-spec, driving until about 3/4pm, then go looking for somewhere suitable to lay our heads.. Recommend you pre-book your first nights accomodation as it gives you somewhere to head to. Remember to take suitable insurance with you and yer logbook!
on the mountain routes, there are loads of guest house all setup for accomodating biker/drivers. Some of these are quite basic - but for

I'm planning on a similar thing this year hopefully taking a well earned month off work and plan to drive across France to the Algarve where my girlfriend's Dad has got a place (and soon a restaurant). So I will be watching this thead with interest.
BTW do you need additional insurance for driving in the EU?

your normal insurance should cover you ok. but your std breakdown insurance will not (presuming the cover that came with the car from new has expired). from experience, ensure you have the latter!
btw E111 forms have just changed so get a new one, and they change againat end of this year...
