Default driving day suggestions

Any help here would be appreciated, ive promised my son whos 19 and been driving a year and a half or so and very confident, some sort of driving experience. Obviously what he wants to do is drive something powerful which as a student of 19 hes isnt going to be able to do on the road for some years to come. Ive considered a first lotus acadamy day using my car but this is ruled out by insurance which I cannot get at a reasonable price ( my car is an 04 and i wont take on the risk myself).
The last thing i want is to book up a 'red letter day' type thing where you drive a ferrari up a straight track with the instructor telling you when to change gear etc. only to be dissapointed.
What i am looking for is some sort of driver training in a performance car provided by the venue and for a decent days event. Any suggestions? oh and in the south east england or london area

I can certainly reccomend the Brands Hatch Experience. Driver training in BMWs before heading out in single seater Fords. Very good!! The bonus is that it is just on the M20!

Have a look at Bedford Autodrome's website - I think they offer something to similar to what you're looking for.

Another place that is usually good value and you can get you hands on plenty of different cars is at the Bedford Autodrome.

Jonathan Palmer runs his school out of there. and it's not a million miles away from you.

Click this for info.

The Brands hatch rally experience is quite good fun. You get to drive escort cosworth rally cars. When I did it Penny Mallory (Rally driver and on TVs driven) went 'round for a quick blast, needless to say I was in awe of her skills.

Driving around the track looks like great fun, especially the corner where it drops away much more steeply than it looks on TV (and the run off is surprisingly short)

Forget anything with 'Experience' in the title, it's usually a diluted form of what the race school offers anyway.

Contact the race school of your nearest circuit and speak to them about what you want. Better value for money and training, rather than an experience so your son will leave a better driver than he arrived.

Exception to this seems to be the Palmersport day mentioned earlier which seems to always get positive reviews.

Paddock Hill bend - awesome Much steeper than it looks from the side of the track too!
