Drivers door won't lock
#11
You can buy the whole thing from the US if you want - but for just one item it's probably too much hassle. I ordered a pair of them and a load of other bits and bobs when imine failed so it was worth the postage / import duty.
The screws that holf the actuator in are the usual soft headed japcrap - you need to give things a good soaking in PlusGas / Penetrating oil before you try and undo things.
There is a guide somewhere but you don't need to remove the entire lock from the door to do it - it's fiddly and a mirror on a stick will help massively if you've fat arms

Further update:
If I put my ear to the drivers door I can hear the gear (actuator?) trying to work. It whirs as it tries to lock and then immediately unlocks again. It's as if something is stopping it locking. Could this mean the actuator is actually ok and something else is the problem?
I know I should just take the door panel off and have a butchers, but I have an actuator on the way (thanks AJ) so I'm waiting until it arrives to take the panel off (I need to use the car so can't leave it in bits)

You can also steal the parts out of a working passenger actuator as long as the control electrics on the small circuit board are ok. The motor / gears are identical. Passenger actuator is cheaper than the drivers one - if you can order it from the USA, the parts are about 70% cheaper than Honda UK / EU.
Only the drivers side has the small circuit board in - so if that is also dead, you need to buy the drivers side actuator.

The actuators themselves aren't handed, the internals are. One contains a dumb motor and the other contains the motor + sender components. In mine, it was just the motor that was dead - i fitted the motor from a passenger side unit to my drivers side unit.

I found the Honda part number, and ordered a knock off from eBay for £5 delivered from China.
Obviously the casing was not quite OEM and fitment was suspect, so I just fitted the new internals in my old housing. Works perfectly!
