Thumbs up Dreaded Tyre Question

Ok so i know this is not a good question to ask, i've read so many posts about tyres & still confused ?

I need to replace x2 rear tyres & have AVON ZZ3's on the front that dont need replacing.

I would like to know if possible -

-) Where to buy tyres from?

-) What options i have?

-) Should i stick another AVON set on not too mix as i'vre read can lead to instability risks?

-) Tyres worn evenly across both so not concerned about balance or tracking out (+dare i say geo setup).

-) What tyres do people recommend - every day use, no track days, not the quickest of driver.

Thanks in advance all,

Cheers

Brent

P.s. - Sorry again for asking a similar question regarding tyres, its just that i got a bit bambozzled & didnt find any that had AVON's on the front (previous owner bought them).

Cheers

I never had problems with mixing tyres front and rear, the problem only occurs when different tire treads are mixed on the same axle..

If you are happy with the AVON's, why not stick with them? I've had them in the past and found the wear rate very good and the walls to be nice and firm.

If you are in the South, then Micheldever tyres are the best in the area..

Brent,

First thing first - are these 16" or 17" wheels? I'm guessing 16" if it's a 2002, so lets work with that.

IMO, if you're happy with your current setup and, by the sounds of it, you're not pushing the limits of the car on a regular basis, then I would stick with what you know. You're quite right, ideally you don't want to mix and match tyres (most important along the same axle, but still important front to back) - did you have the Avon ZZ3's on the rear too?

Other options are Bridgestone RE050A's which seem to be the closest replacement to the original fitment S02 - don't be fooled if someone says they can still get S02's, it is more than likely they will be Porsche fitment and are no good on the S2000.

As for buying them - if you're in or around Bucks, I would recommend Blackboots/Wheels In Motion in Chesham. If not, i've always found Blackcircles.co.uk to be very good - if you PM me you're email address I'll put you as a referral and I think you get a little discount off your first order!

Finally, if you get a bogo place to check you tracking, don't let them - they won't adjust the rears properly, will reset the fronts, and then screw it all up. Get a proper 4 wheel alignment place (like Wheels In Motion) to do it - to find your nearest place, try www.alignmycar.co.uk

Think that's everything!

im running RE050A's and love their feel.
imo they are somewhat soft, but give a progressive feel when it's about to let go.

i've had other brands (not on an S) that were a bit viscous and would just let go without warning.

currently have Yoko's on the front and im not happy with them at all. they feel too soft and let go a little too soon for my likely (understeer = bad!). that said, the grip issue probably is related to the weird tyre wear with around 7deg's of toe pre-adjustment

I did have Eagle F1's on the back of mine and hated them, didn't work with the front S02's at all Switched to RE050A's, much better!

Toyo T1R's or Hankook RS2's. Had plenty of experience with the Toyo's but from what i'm hearing the Hankooks are the best road tyres going. Neither are silly money. look on www.camskill.co.uk for prices

I had Avon ZZ3's on all 4 corners, bought by the previous owner. I replaced the back 2 with RE050A's when they got down to about 1mm of tread, the fronts still had about 8mm on them, so no point in throwing money away. I've been more than happy with the mix, I'll probably put RE050A on the front when they need to be done, but not before.

out of interest where u hearing that euphoric? t1r's are great grip but sidewalls are flimsy even at higher psi (on 16" rims). I wonder if hankook are the same sort of beast...

I've had T1R's on all my hondas. My girlfriend even has them on the jazz and she commented on the difference in grip. The hankooks are a road legal fully treaded track tyre. Not quite as much grip as R888's but not as noisey on the road and not as deadly in the wet
