Good post ...
Wit regard treatment, although I've done it, I never really thought it was necessary as the hood is vinyl and therefore not permeable, whether treated or not.
In fact, having the water bead on the hood only makes the "water run-off when door opens" problem worse, IMHO.

Seriously - it's important that the hood is not so dirty that water can creep past the seals by capillary action via the dirt. That's the key point.

Had the exact same problem on both sides! But the drivers side cured itself a few weeks ago and it seems the passenger side is now waterless!

This "Shin Etzu"; I now have some but it's rained ever since, so I can't open the roof to apply!
What exactly am I to do with it? Rub it just where the rubber sections meet, or all over the rubber? Won't this make the rubber greasy where it touch the glass (and my clothes if I'm getting in when a car has parked too close!) or does the rubber eat it up and dry off? My car is four and a half and I've never done this! Shock, horror!
I've been trying to find something on applying this for four hours now and this damn website is taking over my life every weekend!!!
Cheers,
Neil

I applied it with a soft cloth to all the rubber on the soft top at the front and at the sides, even bit not actually in contact. It seems to moisturise the rubber.
It does leave greasy stains on the windows but it dries off within a few hours so you can clean the windows again.
Better late than never I guess
