Default Double Din conversion

Has anyone in the UK had experience with a double din conversion in their S? I've seen a few done in the US either in the stock position or just above where the Sat nav goes on a JDM dash.

I really want to get a double din dvd touchscreen unit which fits nice and plush but I've certainly had no experience in doing this kind of thing. Just wandering if anyone here has either done it themselves or know of a company/bodyshop that can do this well?

Any feedback appreciated!

I think it would be a lot of cutting for the stock location. There seems to be a few other cables and boxes around the stock unit that would need re-routing/moving.

Best bet would be to get ahold of a fascia from a JDM dash and cut that in and put a new touch screen behind.

Or get the dash out and then cut a big hole, fibre glass a surround, and get a nice 9" screen in there. I was looking at flocking the dash too.

Think a few of the US guys have done it. But it's all the wrong way round.

It would be a hell of a job to mount a double din unit in the S. it think you have to take the dash out as there are cables just behind the dash which you'd end up cutting through if you left it in place and did the cutting.

You could always get a trusted local car stereo shop to have a look for you, but it will cost.

There is a single din JVC DVD player. The screen is small, but it's okay for watching stuff on.

Most slide out ones interfere with the dash overhang by not sliding far enough, or the gearstick by sliding too far.

Or how about sun visor TV's?

The airbag controller is under the head unit and the heater above it.
Stick where the japs put the screen
or don't bother! IMHO

Have a look in the forum on the international section there are some very nice conversions, the 2 links are for in the stock position and in the JDM sat nav position neither are for the faint harted or DIY challenged.

I've removed the head unit & moved the air bag control unit (as in moved it).

It's do-able, just requires balls.

I've tried putting a double-din in stock position & it envolves removing a lot of the heater-ducting. Not to mention the knock-on effect of that head unit needing heat protection from the ducting.

I'm actually having a fully-custom dash built at the moment for my s, bit different to OEM, but easiest option would probably be to get a JDM unit and modify the dash to take a double-din.
