Default Does the weight of the hardtop blunt performance?

Put on my hardtop yesterday and although the car looks much better to me the car seemed less manic on acceleration. Will the 20kg of extra weight be significant or not?

To put it in perspective:

20kg is the difference between a thin person and a fat person.
20kg is the difference between half a tank of fuel and a full tank of fuel.
20kg is about half a boot-full of average luggage.

So yes, it'll make a difference, but nowhere near as much as things like ambient temperature or ambient air pressure.

Additionally the drag of the hard top is significantly less than the soft top, so at higher speeds it actually has a positive impact.

HTH,
Stuart

Why not remove your spare tyre to compensate? (I'm talking about the car's spare tyre here, I'm not advocating lipsocution )

The car always feels faster roof down, windows down. So the problem might be your own *perception* of speed with the HT on...

Anyway, what are you doing putting the HT on? Its too early man! Give it another month! Its only HT time in the Sundance-household when you can see your breath condensing in the crisp morning air

Mine feels faster with the hard top on when travelling at 100+ kleptons. This might be related to the cooler air at that time of the year though.

I'd love to have some cool air

Lowest it will drop is about 15C and I've still got months to wait for that.

increased weight will affect acceleration rates,

decreased form drag will more so increase your Vmax !
