dodgy deal?
Hi everyone and thanks in advance for any advice offered.
I went to view an 06 s2000 today which on paper ticked all the right boxes. Being a honda man I know from my ek9 from my dc5 and i've owned both an ep3 and an fn2 so I kind of know my stuff, although i'm not yet an s2000 expert.
In the ad the chap wrote "late ap2 model, the one with the drive by wire throttle". Now I know what that means but there was no VSA button to the right of the steering wheel. I reckon it must be an early 06 model with a cable throttle, Correct?
There was also what sounded like some suspension knocking from the driver side rear which he told me the honda man said was "normal".
Lastly and possibly most worringly, when he lifted the bonnet the vin plate on this 06 model listed the chassie code as AP1!!!
Is the moral of the story don't touch with a barge pole or am I being unfair.
Many thanks, Miles

From memory the 06 cars were DBW, but VSA was an option so it would be possible to have DBW without the VSA.
The knocking could be several things and maybe something as simple as a problem with the rear drop links.

#As others have said, all UK spec cars have an AP1 chassis code. DBW was introduced in 06 but VSA was an option. All sounds kosher to me.
Suspension knocking could be an alignment issue, or any number of other things. Just get the car checked out by a mechanic and all should be fine.

Thanks for quick responses.
I don't feel so bad now, i was under the impression that post 04 cars where AP2 so when I read the chassie code alarm bells rang.
I saw there was a car in the for sale section which is a 2005 car but on an 06 plate which I thought may have been the case here.
But there was still no VSA button which is a must for me and he also wanted me to pay for a different car which he's already put a deposit on instead of just paying him direct which i'm not too happy about.

Well, if the vendor ever wanted me to pay someone else I would walk away. That sounds a bit fishy to me. There are plenty of cars out there for sale. Better to get one you are completely comfortable with and then deal with buyer's remorse rather than have concerns from the get go.

Why is VSA a must? I quite the like the idea of having it, but there is something which for me, makes driving a bit more of a challenge and therefore enjoyable by not having it.
It is not a ridiculous amount of power to control and it will only bite your head off if you poke the car with a stick.

Just make sure you drive within your own capabilities rather than the capabilities of the car...
I would gladly own another S2k which doesnt have VSA

As I say VSA is a must for me, i've not had a RWD car before and living in deepest darkest Dorset I would feel much more comfortable with a bit of security from my lack of skill.
Any how the guy told me it had VSA which it now looks like it doesn't so I think i'll leave it.
To make matters worse I now see theres a perfect example for sale from........s20004u!
I have read the countless posts and horror stories so now i'm in a pickle.
