I did quite alot of checking on this subject as I was going to buy a modified Jap import - basically alot of insurers will not add anything to the premium unless it increases power output or increases the market value of the car.

Certain mods are unlikely to be detected as the engineer who will be sent out probably will not know that much about the car and therefore will only be able to spot the obvious stuff (he may nip down to a local dealer and have a look at a new car). Personally I would only risk it if I was sure the mods were not plantantly obvious but if I were you I'd mention to the insurers something like I'm thinking of fitting X will it effect the premium.

I think you should tell them - only if its a considerably different part from standard, eg wheels, exhaust etc. The whells on mine cost an extra

I haven't mentioned AUSCAI nor the grille nor the voodoo knob. Elephant are arses when it comes to mods. They are quick to charge you for the mod ut also carry a standard parts clause which basically means that the mods aren't actually covered but you still pay the price. I have told them about the OEM kit and the HKS.

When I mentioned my OEM Lip, Spoiler, and Wheel skirts, DirectLine wanted another 300 quid (policy <1100). The excess would also be
