It is a hell of a price ..... you can get the same stuff from 'building' type sites for a *lot* less.

(I'll see if I bookmarked any of them)

Here you go .....

Oxhouser,

do you think that flexible pipe would work straight through?

the one I used would not as its smooth internal wall and does not bend so easily in tight radius, I suppose you could use the flex type but you get a lot of flow loss on the internal ridges, if you decide to go this route use the largest dia you can fit, personally I think the push fit drain pipe is good as the bends are full rad and its easy to cut, you can shape it with a heat gun if required (bell mouth can be made by heating the end until its soft and pushing it onto something spherical like a bowl. two flex pipes one to each front vent would be ok and if you seal the pipes to the inside of the front vents you will get a ram effect. Remember to seal off the original air intake

I think DIYing this mod could give great air flow. Any body know if the power could be affected or if a ECU change would be required to make the best of it

A ram air system will gain you power regardless as there will be less drag on the cuombusting cylinder from the induction cylinder.

Personally, I would just get one that fits in the front arch. It has all the cold air it ever needs

Where abouts does it get the air at the arch?, is it from the oblong (IIRC) gap at the side near the light?

Im sure thats wha you mean

I did something similar on my FTO, and it made a real noticeable difference.

I did the maths to compare the volume of air being sucked in by the engine compared to the "ram air" effect of air being forced up a forwards facing pipe at speed. And at 60mph the former was about 10 times more.

Conclusion: the benefit is mostly cold air and little to do with ram air.
