go down the gap everyone else made by mounting the kerb? the ambulance/fire engine can follow you.. until you stop at the red light..

if they say they'll prosecute you for red light jumping then you're within the law to hold your ground.. simple as.

That's exactly what I did, although the light was green when I went through it.

Choices, choices.

Some people may choose to break the law and jump the lights, some may not. It has got nothing to do with being nice or not. The law states that we do not go through red lights.

What would happen if a driver went through a red to create a space for an approaching ambulance but was then hit by a driver who was either not paying enough attention or who had not noticed the ambulance? Who would take responsibility for that accident?

Ah yes but surely this would be an educated choice based on the brain capacity/morals/common sense of the driver.

Its fine to break the law speeding as I am sure we ALL do at times, however if I was gonna get caught/suffer financial damage from breaking the law TO HELP ANOTHER I wouldn't?! Is that what you are saying?

People break laws everyday in countries all around the world to HELP people or SAVE LIVES! It has to do with very much with being nice, It is still personal choice.

I agree. Some people just don't get it.

"Oooh I heard a siren, I had better stop straight away."

On another note, has anyone every tailed the emergance service through a big traffic jam?

Nick
I think this is an offence, someting like making progress by following an emergency vehicle, or something like that!

TBH I have never really said what I would do or wouldn't do, that would very much depend on the situation, but I know that I would do whatever possible to get out of the way, I always have.

Re-read my last paragraph, if you were caught in that situation you may think differently, then again you may not.

My arguement is not to what I or anyone else would or wouldn't do, its against the system that prosecutes for doing the right thing, and the message that is given when a driver is prosecuted for allowing the emergency services through.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/3859693.stm

why did they exist?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/norfolk/3092397.stm

and this is just a frickin joke...

it's pathetic that these things happen.. but happen they do and if they are gonna take that stance then.. well what do you do? you know you're gonna be commiting a criminal offence by driving through that red light ffs. and it's gonna cost you on your insurance and in the fine, it could jeopardise your job ffs! I'm not talking morality here and i'm not saying I wouldnt do it... but i'd think about it.. then i'd probably torch the camera later that night..
