Dilema

Dilema
I was sat in two lanes of heavy traffic this evening, approaching a roundabout with traffic lights. I was about 5 cars from the lights which were on red when I heard a siren and saw a couple of fire engines.
All the cars in front mounted the kerb on either side to make some room down the middle. Now this kerb was quite high and I did not fancy damaging my tyres or trashing an alloy. On the other hand some ones life may be a stake.
Luckily for me I was able to boot through the gap in the traffic before the fire engines got to me and then pulled into the centre of the roundabout well out of the way.
Now I was lucky I had this option. But I was wondering what I would have done if otherwise.
Interesting dilemma and I've not settled on a view as yet!

Assuming you're parallel to the kerb to begin with, wouldn't full lock put the wheels around enough to use the tyre to mount the kerb?

1) It is not going to to the side wall of the tyre any good.
2) It was a bloody high kerb.

Just noticed you are running stock alloys, those babies have tractor tyres as standard they are hardly low profile. You would have no trouble at all going up kerbs slowly in those
I know I'm being a bit fussy. If I had no other option to let the fire engine past then I would have gone up the kerb.
