Differential Oil & Air Filters - 27K service
Car is due for it's 27K service; so I'll be changing the differential oil & air filter aswell all other necessary service items. I've read the (always helpful) FAQ but wanted some more advice/help.
I been into Halfords who sell their own 75W-90 GL5 differential but, it would appear, nothing else with this grade (always start at Halford as I get 20% off). Has anyone used this, and if so, have any positive or negative comments.
Otherwise what else would mbrs recommend. If I'm not sure I'll get some OEM oil from Honda, but I'm guessing their prices will be a bit dear.
Same again with the air filter, although Halford's don't seem to list an air filter in their flipchart.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated, as I don't want to inadvertantly use the wrong parts.
Thanks,

nterestingly I've just rung Norton Way Honda who've advised they use EPX 80/90 oil. Assume the 80/90 corresponds with 75W90, but what does EPX denote ?

In my experience, Honda tend to use Castrol for the diff oil; Castrol Syntrax Universal. The diff doesn't take much oil so cost shouldn't be too much of an issue.
As far as the air filter goes, i'd get a replacement OEM, or if you think you will have the car for a long time a washable K&N.

Some info from when i serviced mine a few weeks ago
Finally finished the full service after a couple of additional hours this morning changing the Gearbox and Differential oil, now who would have thought Mr Honda would use a 23mm filling plug on the diff., a quick trip to Halfords and a combination spanner purchased and job finally finished.
Tools required 24 mm socked diff drain plug. 23mm combination spanned diff filling plug. 3/8" drive ratchet square to remove the gearbox drain plug, and a 17mm combination for the filling plug.
Service items used
Differential oil Motul 90 PA Lubricant limited slip differential (LSD) Extreme pressure used approx 800ml
Gearbox Motul Gear 300 75W-90 Racing gearbox and differential lubricant 100% Synthetic, used approx 1.5litres
Engine Castrol edge 5W40 TD, used approx 5 litres
Plugs NGK Spark Plug PFR7G-11S (Opie Ref: 7772) -4 pack
K&N air filter K&N E-2435 High Flow Replacement Air Filter -single
Oil Filter Honda 15400PCX004
Refilling the gearbox and differential was a doddle I purchased something similar to
Oil suction puller
I was hoping that the gearbox oil change would make initial gearchanges better, however Im afraid to say it's still a bit notchy until hot, when it's as smooth as ever.
All in all a good weekends work.
