Default Diff oil.....

Sure this will open a can of worms but have been searching for quite a while now and haven't found anything solid (seems to be everyone having a different opinion on this?)

Picked up my new S2000 on Sat and as a result am planning on replacing all the oils this coming weekend.

After a bit of searching I've decided on 5w40 castrol edge in the engine and Honda MTF3 in the gearbox.

What I'm struggling with though is the diff. Read many posts saying I should be using Hypoid Gear Oil from Honda and others saying any GL5 90 or 75w90 fluid will do.

Can anyone help point me in the direction of what is best for the diff? Got a couple of litres of Fuchs Titan Race Gear 90LS left on the shelf from my Skyline which I assume would do the trick, but would just like to know if I'd be better off sticking with OEM oils.

Many thanks,
Alex

Edit: If I've missed a thread giving feedback on this please do just let me know and I'll check it out

Thanks for the reply - is that something you've used with good results? (In this instance presumably no problems = good results heh)

Any 80w90 will be ok as long as its a GL5 rated hypoid differential oil. This last bit is very important! I've used Silkolene BOA90LS for a good while and its done the job but there are others out there too.

Yes I used it in my S2000 and I use it in my Westfield (Quaife ATB).

Don't be conned by LSD type oils because the diff in the S is just full of gears, not plates or viscous.

How much do you need to do a oil change anyway? I need to do the gearbox and diff in the next couple of weeks and I still don't know what quantities to order after 2 years of ownership! I feel ashamed :-(

Thanks Nexus - picked up a bottle of the castrol stuff now for the diff

In regards to how much it needs iirc its 1.5L for the gearbox and 0.8L for the diff.

I couldnt even get a full litre into the rear diff before it started coming out. I think the gearbox is less than 2 litres also. It was a while ago since i done it thou

Yeah something like that. You need two litres fro the box and a litre for the diff

Put a bit extra than stated in the gearbox, stops the rear secondary shaft running dry.

Jacking up the car on the side of the filler helps get a bit more in
