Diff And Gear Box Oil Change
Finally got round to changing out the gear box oil...if any of you guys haven't done it, I highly recommend it.
The gear box oil that came out wasn't too bad - a sort of golden syrup in colour and no metal shavings - thank God.
The diff oil was slighlty darker in colour but didn't smell as bad as was mentioned on here. The drain bolt is magnetic and had a tiny bit of gunk stuck to it.
The only problem, is that I can't find a 23mm closed end spanner! I have tried everywhere - why the hell don't motor factors stock them? They carry a huge range starting from 7mm, all the way up to 32mm but for some reason 23mm is skipped.
Can anyone help? I need to get one asap, so please don't post any ebay links. Links to shops that carry them would be helpful... here's hoping.
Oh and if any of you are thinking of doing this:
Gear box:
3/8 ratchet end for drain bolt 39 N.m (4.0 kgf.m, 29 lbf.ft)
17mm for filler bolt - tighten to 44 N.m (4.5 kgf.m, 33 lbf.ft)
Fluid Capacity
1.48l (1.56 US qt, 1.30 Imp qt) at fluid change
1.62l (1.71 US qt, 1.43 Imp qt) at overhaul
Differential:
24mm socket for drain bolt - tighten to - 45 Nm (4.6 kgf/m, 33 lbf)
23mm closed end spanner for filler bolt - 45 Nm (4.6 kgf/m, 33 lbf)
Oil Capacity
0.74l (0.78 US qt, 0.65 Imp qt) at oil change
0.77l (0.81 US qt, 0.68 Imp qt) at overhaul

I have a 23mm spanner... you'll probably find it's a lot easier to get a single 23mm socket than the spanner.
If it's any consolation, the diff fill plug is the only 23mm head I've found on the car so far!
Oh, here's a tip you're sure to remember now. Always remove the fill plug before the drain plug.... or you can be stuck not able to get new fluid in. Also known as 'place the egg in your mouth, and suck'.
Anyway on a slightly more helpful note. Tool Stars, are the Teng distributers, try the local stockist search off postcode - if you can find a larger motor factor, they're likely to have the scoket, if not the spanner.

The original plan was to open the drain bolts first but when I started working on the diff, I realised I didn't have a 23mm spanner or socket. Trying to be smart, I undid the drain bolt and left it to drain whilst I went out to buy the tool - 2.5 hours later and still no tool.
