The standard S alloys have a thin lacquer protective coating, eventually this gives way with all the abuse they get. When your wheels get refurbished its best to get them lacquered at the same time, on top of this coat them whilst off the car with some wax, ideally one designed for wheels such as Poorboys Wheel sealant of Rim wax. You will need to top this up every few months.

Best thing to do is to drive your S alongside a high kerb and get some nice scrapes into them.

Then you wont care about them and can get on with the business of driving the car rather than cosseting it
