My brother asked me and tbh I know sweet FA other than tomtom is sposed to be good.. so what is a decent entry level system and roughly how much should it cost?
it needs to be portable cos it's for a number of veee hicles. apparently.

Same here Tom Tom is v easy to use and transfer between cars, it has a large touch screen that makes it v easy to use when in the car.
A mate has the navman, which comes with a pencil to touch the screen, not as user friendly as the Tom Tom. However the bonus about the navman is that it fits into your back pocket when removed...a slim design. The Tom Tom is bulky and a pain to carry around thats if you want to of course.

I purchased the TOMTOM Go when it first came out. It never fails to impress me. Highly recommended. I do a lot of business miles and use it to go everywhere it great for speed cameras as well, once you down load the database.

I'm going to be buying a Navman iCN 510 at the weekend (probably) - it's cheaper than the Tomtom GO 500, which was the other alternative, and looks a nicer unit in my opinion...

I bought a Garmin StreetPilot C330 a couple of weeks ago and I love it! Easy to use menu with touch screen like the TomTom, smaller in size but very readable.
6 hour Lithium battery etc. etc.
Was a toss up between Garmin and TomTom but Garmin's aviation and hardware background did it for me

TomTom 5, separate GPS receiver (Bluetooth) and a Dell Axim here.
Works like a charm, although I need to use an earpiece in the PDA to hear the directions above about 50 with the roof down Plus BT chews through the PDA power like nobody's business, so I need to sort out a proper mount/power source.
