Default Dead battery

I haven't used the car for a couple of weeks and it's been 'sleeping' in the garage. I just noticed the boot lid wasn't closed (our grandson was playing with my keys at the weekend and I guess he must have opened the boot from indoors) and everything is dead. No life whatsoever.

The battery is only a year or so old, is it worth putting it on charge or shall I just bite the bullet and get a new one? Even if I do get some charge into it will it ever be the same again now it's been down to zilch?

All help and advice appreciated

Trickle charge it, it'll probably be fine.

It'll be fine if you charge it up. Mine went flat when I didn't use the car for seven weeks, after an overnight charge it's been fine ever since and that was two years ago. It's the original battery over eight years old.

Thanks chaps. It's on charge now, just hope the crappy old charger I found in the garage is still ok. Cheers

Try charging it, if not then take it back. 1 year is not fit for purpose

My last car's battery completely died after I left the car garaged for a month but took it down to my local garage who very kindly recharged it properly (because it was so dead my charger didn't make a dent). It took about 24 hours on their machine but was perfect after.

Batteries normally come with a few years warranty, surely? The S2000 battery is tiny, no wonder they die easily.

Lead acid batteries don't like being fully discharged, they get a build up of sulphite - some chargers have a recovery mode that will shatter some of the crystals on the plates - there was a thread a while ago about the Lidl "Ultimate Speed" charger being the same as the more costly c-tek one with the same features - one of which is a recovery mode.

If your old charger doesn't do the business it might be worth paying a visit to Lidl to see if they still have any.

That was my thread, and having done my roof elastic recently, putting the roof up and down ariund 20 times with the engine not running I completly drained the battery, the trusty Lidl charger got it back to life in a few hours.

£66 for a new honda battery if you can't revive it.

Epsom salt if you wanted to take a chance at getting it to work again
