i don't know where this oil burning creates black smoke thing came from. Oil burning generates blue smoke. Overfueling causes black smoke.
if it is puffing out black smoke it's probably overfueling.

It may be running over-rich on start-up, which is washing carbon out of the exhaust system. As Lower has correctly stated.
Mine did when I flooded it!
Worn valve guides usually produces a puff of blue smoke on start-up (may possibly be black if the cat has lit-off; that would be on overrun when hot and would be rings).

Get it checked, it may be nothing.

diesels do the same when they have worn injectors.
