i don't know where this oil burning creates black smoke thing came from. Oil burning generates blue smoke. Overfueling causes black smoke.

if it is puffing out black smoke it's probably overfueling.

It may be running over-rich on start-up, which is washing carbon out of the exhaust system. As Lower has correctly stated.

Mine did when I flooded it!

Worn valve guides usually produces a puff of blue smoke on start-up (may possibly be black if the cat has lit-off; that would be on overrun when hot and would be rings).

Get it checked, it may be nothing.

My beater decided to leave me a puddle of auto transmission fluid in my car park space at work yesterday. Dropped it at the Honda dealers today thinking that I was going to be paying

So it wasn't just interior design that Honda learned form their links with Rover, then!

My Prelude used to puff black smoke a fair bit when I used Tesco petrol. Changed to 'proper' stuff and it stopped.

yes overfueling. if your engine runs too rich you get soot forming which causes the black smoke.

when oil burns it burns blue, unless it is on a turbo car and the turbo oil seals are leaking in which case it burns white.
