They are invariably under the limit-although bet most don't even know the UK standard speed limits

I was on a work-sponsored driving course yesterday and my colleague who did it with me thought that NSL on single lane road was 40 mph

His comment before that was (being London drivers) when you get out to the country everybody drives so fast - muppet

You've got to wonder how some of these people ever passed their test

You can argue he should have been able to slow down and if necessary stop within the distance he can see, but looking at the big picture, that accident wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for the camera.

It nearly happened to me once. I was one of 3 cars that pulled out to overtake a caravan, not seeing the speed camera ahead. First guy saw the camera, panicked, braked to 50mph whilst swerving back in. Second guy followed suit only narrowly missing the front of the car pulling the caravan, and I was stuck in the right hand lane with nowhere to go but brake hard and get back in behind the caravan (who was by now also braking hard). If the second car had clipped the front of the car pulling the caravan I hate to think what would have happened. If the camera hadn't been there all three of us would have safely overtaken and probably only exceeded the speed limit for a few seconds.

So, looking at the big picture, If it was cold, wet and icy and braking caused him to crash, then he wasn't driving to suit the conditions, irrelevant of the camera.

I'm going to say it again. Plenty of drivers out there could do with an Advanced Drivers' Course - IAM or whatever. A lot can be learned and it is fun doing it.
