Cruddy Synchro...

If you are still after a gearbox, this guy will be able to help, down in Hastings E sussex. He has an alladins cave of Honda, DC5s, S2000's Nsxs, breaking them all the time and suplying the tuners in the UK, I went to see him this weekend for a bootlid.
Andy, 07817 172934, 01424 853538
He's not normally around on the phone until after 12.

You do still have some rights when buying a used car privately, namely that the seller must not misrepresent the facts:
Private sales rights
Assuming I have the right advert, the statement "Car has been faultless for me" would not be true if the synchros were already gone when the advert was written. However, you would have to sue and the onus would be on you to somehow prove that this was the case.

Unfortunately if, as AE says, the guy is skint all the time, where will a court case get him other than a large amount of hassle and cost for the seller to then default etc?
I think this is a case of an expensive mistake.
My sympathies to the OP.

for what it's worth re gbox cost;
c. £400 on an exchange basis is about the going rate for something with 20-50k.
I had mine swapped a few weeks ago after I totally lost 5th and a number of other problems were arising.
One thing I WOULD say, though - take your clutch master cylinder out of the firewall before you go spending massive money, reason is thus:
Shifting gears on mine was becomming progressively worse (incidentally, 2nd and 3rd were the worst). I wasn't sure whether it was box or clutch.
I had both swapped at once - the clutch was upgraded to an ACT unit rated to about 450bhp.
Both refitted, the new, heavier clutch wouldn't disengage at all. Turned out the MC had been leaking behind the firewall (so undetectable). The leak of course meant there was a pressure leak - this was stopping my standard clutch from disengaging properly, and meant the new one wouldn't disengage at all.
Ultimately, the clutch and box both needed changing anyway, but the 2nd and 3rd issue was def. the MC.
You may not be lucky enough to find that, but check anyway!

I think i'm going to be in this position eventually, 3rd is very notchy on mine and thers is a whining noise presumably input shaft bearings.
My plan was to buy from a breakers and hope for the best, either way it's not going to be cheap.

Third in mine isn't great; I just shift slightly slower and there's no problem...much like getting into 2nd when cold.
The whining will probably be the secondary input shaft bearings.
If you can find someone who will supply and change the gearbox, you won't have to fork out for additional labour if it's no good; most breakers will only apply a warranty on their parts, not labour carried out by a third party.

Is not cheap, Honda don't just sell synchros on it's own, you are looking at £300 to buy the parts to repair each gear so all 6 gears will be £1800 plus bearing and labour.
I am speak to Gear X now and see if they can make me some carbon synchros which I used on my K series gearbox before and it worked really great and smooth. And work out much cheaper for whole set.
Master cylinder is common fault on s2000, I have seen failed one one a 2008 low mileage s2000. So check yours if you notice random biting point and specially when it's start getting lower when hot.

Re James Rowe.
I bought the Buddyclub P1s he had for sale, at the start of August, transferred the money straightaway into his account where it sat for 3 weeks.
He told me he couldnt send the P1s as he had a set of Enkeis getting refurbed and the refurbers were holding things up. I said OK no prob, and was happy to wait for a reasonable amount of time.
3 weeks later he sends the money back and says that he has kerbed one of the Buddyclubs badly and cant send them now. At least I got the money back but still, sitting about for 3 weeks waiting for a set of wheels which then reappeared for sale from a different seller.
I know i'm new on here, but still no need to be messing forum members about, like he has GravyStain.
